What happens at a cleaning
- We look over your teeth and gums for decay and for early gum disease
- X-rays if they are needed to see between the teeth
- We remove the hard build-up that brushing cannot shift, above and below the gumline
- Polish
- Fluoride
- We tell you what we found, in plain words, before you leave
How often
Most people are fine every six months. If your gums bleed, if you smoke, or if you are diabetic, you may need it more often. We will tell you what applies to you rather than giving everyone the same answer.
If your gums bleed when you brush
Bleeding gums are not normal and they are not something to wait out. It is usually early gum disease, and early is the point at which it is still straightforward to deal with. Left alone for years it is what loosens teeth.
If it has been a long time
Plenty of our patients have not seen a dentist in years, and some are embarrassed about it. You will not be lectured. We look, we tell you what is there, and we start with whatever is hurting or most urgent.
Insurance and Medicaid
We accept Medicaid and dental insurance. Bring your card. If you have no insurance, say so when you call and we will tell you the cost before we start.
