A root canal treats the infected nerve inside a tooth so the tooth can be kept instead of pulled. Call (313) 841-1010 or walk in.
What it is for
Inside every tooth is a nerve. If decay or a crack reaches it, it becomes infected, and that infection does not clear up on its own. A root canal cleans out the inside of the tooth and seals it.
Signs to come in
- Pain that wakes you at night
- Lingering pain after something hot or cold, rather than a quick twinge
- Pain when you bite on one particular tooth
- A tooth that has darkened
- A swelling or a bump on the gum near a tooth
Swelling of the face, or difficulty swallowing or breathing, is not something to wait on. That is an emergency room, not a dental appointment.
Does it hurt
The reputation is worse than the reality. The tooth is numbed thoroughly, and for most people the appointment feels much like having a filling. What hurts is the infection you arrive with, and that is what the treatment settles.
Afterwards
The tooth is usually tender for a few days and goes brittle over time, so it often needs a crown to protect it. We will tell you whether yours does.
If your case would be better handled by a specialist, we will say so and refer you.
Insurance and Medicaid
We accept Medicaid and dental insurance. Bring your card on the day. If you have no insurance, say so when you call and we will tell you the cost before any work starts.
