Professional teeth whitening in Southwest Detroit. Custom-fitted trays made from impressions of your own teeth, so the gel goes where it should and stays off your gums. Call (313) 841-1010.
How Our Take-Home Whitening Works
We take impressions of your teeth and make trays that fit only you. You take them home with professional-strength gel and wear them for a set period each day over a couple of weeks, at whatever pace suits you. Because the trays are molded to your teeth, the gel sits evenly across each tooth instead of pooling on your gums.
We provide take-home whitening with custom trays. If you have seen in-office light or laser systems advertised elsewhere, that is a different treatment and not one we offer — we would rather tell you that up front than have you arrive expecting it.
What Whitening Can and Cannot Fix
It works well on the everyday staining that builds up from coffee, tea, red wine, cola and tobacco, and on the general yellowing that comes with age. That covers most people who ask.
It does not work on everything, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. Whitening gel does not change the color of crowns, veneers, bridges or tooth-colored fillings — they stay exactly the shade they were made, which can leave them standing out once the natural teeth around them lighten. Grayish staining from certain antibiotics taken in childhood, or from an injury to a tooth, responds poorly or not at all. If that is your situation we will say so and talk about bonding or veneers instead.
Custom Trays or Strips From the Store?
Store-bought strips and one-size trays are cheaper and they do lighten teeth. The difference is fit. A tray molded to your teeth holds the gel against every surface including between the teeth, and keeps it off the gum, which is where most of the burning and irritation people complain about comes from. Uneven contact is also why over-the-counter results often look patchy.
Sensitivity — What to Expect
Some sensitivity to cold during and just after whitening is common and normally settles within a few days of finishing. Tell us if you already get sensitive teeth, because we can adjust how long you wear the trays and how often. Whitening is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Before You Start
Whitening works best on a clean, healthy mouth, so we will check for decay and gum problems first — lightening a tooth that has an untreated cavity underneath is not doing you a favor. We will tell you what the treatment costs before you commit to it, and if your insurance covers any part of it we will check that too. We accept Medicaid and major insurance for general dental care.
