If a tooth is broken down or infected and cannot be saved, taking it out is sometimes the right answer. Call (313) 841-1010 or walk in.
We do extractions at Motor City Dental Group on Vernor Hwy in Southwest Detroit. We also accept walk-ins, which matters when a tooth has you up at night.
We try to save it first
An extraction is not the first option. We look at the tooth and the x-ray and tell you honestly whether it can be kept. If it can, we will say so. If it cannot, we will say that too, and why.
If your case needs a specialist, we will refer you rather than attempt it here.
On the day
We numb the area thoroughly. You should feel pressure but not sharpness. Tell us if you do feel anything and we will stop and add more.
Afterwards
- Bite on the gauze for a good half hour
- No rinsing, spitting or straws for the first day, that is what dislodges the clot
- Soft food, and chew on the other side
- Do not smoke, it is the most common cause of a painful dry socket
Some ache for a few days is normal. Pain that gets worse after day three, swelling that grows, or a bad taste means ring us.
Replacing the tooth
A gap does not stay a gap. The teeth either side drift into it over the years. When you are healed we can talk about a partial denture or an implant, and there is no rush about deciding.
Insurance and Medicaid
We accept Medicaid and dental insurance. Bring the card. If you have no insurance, say so on the phone and you will know the cost before we begin.
