Most people do not ring a dentist to ask about teeth. They ring to ask whether their insurance will cover it. So here is the plain answer: we bill every dental insurance plan directly, and you can find out what yours covers before you come in. Read us the details over the phone and we will check it.
Motor City Dental Group is on Vernor Hwy in Southwest Detroit. Call (313) 841-1010 or walk in. Our team speaks Spanish.
Find out what you are covered for before you drive here
You do not have to come in to find out where you stand. Call (313) 841-1010 with your plan details and we will check the coverage and tell you what it pays for. That is a phone call, not an appointment, and it costs you nothing.
It matters most if you are travelling to us. Nobody should cross the bridge, or come in on a break, only to be told the plan does not cover the thing they came for. Ask first and you will know before you set off.
We submit the claim, not you
You do not pay us the full amount and then chase your insurer for it. We send the claim to your plan for you and you pay your share, which is the ordinary way it should work and is not how every office does it.
Bring your insurance card to your first visit so we have the details on file. If you are not sure whether the plan is still active, ring us before you come and we will find out.
The plans we bill
We submit claims to every dental insurance company, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Delta Dental, Aetna, Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, United Healthcare, Humana, United Concordia, Ameritas, Principal and GEHA, along with Medicaid and Healthy Kids Dental.
One thing worth understanding before you come in. Billing a plan and being in network with that plan are two different things, and the difference shows up in what you pay. Whether your particular plan treats us as in network depends on the plan your employer bought, not only on the company name on the card. We will tell you which you are, and what it means in dollars. Ask us on the phone and you will know before you travel, not after we have started.
If you live in Canada and work in Michigan
If your job is on this side of the river, your dental benefits are almost certainly a United States plan. A Canadian dental office generally cannot bill a United States plan, which leaves a lot of Windsor and Essex County people paying out of pocket at home while carrying coverage they are not using.
We bill those plans directly, because they are the plans we bill every day.
We are also close to the crossings. The clinic is about a mile and a half from the Ambassador Bridge plaza on the Detroit side, and a few minutes further from the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel exit, so an appointment can sit at the front or the back of a shift rather than costing a day.
Ring us before you cross. Give us the plan details on the phone and we will check the coverage and tell you what it pays, so the trip is not wasted. You do not need to be sitting in our chair to get that answer.
Two honest notes. Coverage usually follows the employer rather than the address you live at, but plans do differ, which is exactly why we check rather than guess. And a dental appointment is an ordinary reason to cross, though the bridge is slower at shift change, so give yourself the time.
Medicaid and Healthy Kids Dental
We accept Medicaid and Healthy Kids Dental. Children and young adults under 21 on Medicaid are covered through Healthy Kids Dental, and adults enrolled through the Healthy Michigan Plan have dental benefits as well.
What is covered, and how often, depends on which health plan you are enrolled with. Call us with the plan name and we will work it out with you before you come in. There is more on our Medicaid page.
If you do not have insurance
Plenty of our patients do not. Say so when you call and we will tell you the cost of what you need before we do it, in writing. You can decide then.
If the full course of treatment is more than you can take on at once, say that too. It is often possible to deal with the urgent part first and plan the rest, and that conversation is a normal one to have here.
What to bring to your first visit
- Your insurance card, or your Medicaid card, so we have it on file
- Photo identification
- A list of any medication you take
- If you are crossing the border, whatever you normally travel with
Common questions
Do you take my insurance?
We bill every dental plan. Whether yours pays us at in network rates depends on the specific plan, Call us with the details and we will check it and tell you where you stand, before you come in.
Can you check my coverage over the phone?
Yes, and we would rather you asked. Ring (313) 841-1010 with the plan name and your member details and we will look it up and tell you what it covers. You do not have to drive here to find that out.
I have a United States plan but I live in Canada. Can you bill it?
Yes. That is an ordinary claim for us. Coverage generally follows your employer rather than your home address, though plans vary, so call us with the details first and we will confirm it before you make the trip.
Do I pay you and claim it back?
No. We send the claim to your insurer and you pay your portion.
What if my plan has run out for the year?
Tell us and we will price the work and talk about what is urgent now and what can wait until the benefit year resets.
Do you see patients without an appointment?
Yes, we take walk-ins during opening hours. There is more on our walk-in page.
